About me
“Pilates is complete co-ordination of body, mind and spirit”. Joseph Pilates
Hello and welcome! My name is Kirsty, founder of Pilates Laurencekirk.
My own Pilates journey started back many moons ago, whilst undertaking my MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Reg). I was amazed at how exercises that looked so simple could be so empowering both for myself and for my patients. At that point I didn’t have an in-depth knowledge of the method and so I signed myself up to undertake a foundation matwork course in the APPI Pilates Method… I was hooked!!!
There was no debating the fact that I wanted to follow this through to instructor level and back in 2012, that’s just what I did. Since then, I have undertaken additional training and continued development in Antenatal and Postnatal Pilates, Pilates for Women’s Health, Pilates for Osteoporosis, Performance Pilates for Runners and Pilates for Horse Riders.
But what is Pilates I hear you say? Pilates involves the co-ordination of deep postural and stability muscles – combined with breathing, arm and leg movements and postural correction. Scientific research shows Pilates can reduce pain and improve physical function, movement and wellbeing.
The APPI Pilates Method, designed, taught and developed by physiotherapists, takes the classical matwork exercises and breaks them up into additional levels. The outcome is simple - it makes Pilates accessible to all levels and all abilities.
